The project will work on a set of coordinated actions to achieve the proposed objectives
The SOLIEVA project is a pre-industrial demonstration project of a new solution based on new treatment and separation technologies for the recovery of wastewater in the table olive sector (TOPWW). The execution period covers from 2018 to 2021.
The technical activities to be undertaken are several and summarized below.
In the first place, the residual waters of the table olives will be treated beforehand to eliminate the solids and improve the performance of the membrane. Subsequently, a membrane-based filtration stage will be carried out that will provide two separate effluents: one with the dissolved organic matter (retentate) and another with the dissolved salts (permeate). This stage will be a combination of ultrafiltration (UF) and nanofiltration (NF). The UF reduces the turbidity, as well as the bacterial content of the TOPWW before the NF, which separates the organic matter from the salts to obtain a saline effluent. The efficiency of the UF is 95% and 70% for the NF. The use of regenerated reverse osmosis membranes made to measure is one of the most innovative aspects.
On the other hand, the polyphenols will be recovered using the vacuum concentration and the drying of the retentate by NF which will result in dry extracts rich in phenols that are of interest in the pharmaceutical and food formulations.
The scheme of the pilot plant will include: pretreatment, membrane filtration, purification of phenolic extracts in adsorbent resin and anaerobic digestion.
To undertake the part of the project regarding advanced solar evaporation (ASE), which consists of intensifying natural evaporation using the greenhouse effect, a shallow pond with a cover transparent to solar radiation will be covered and providing an intelligent control system for achieve the maximum evaporation rate between 2 and 2.5 m3 / m2 · year.
Likewise, a large number of dissemination and transfer activities are planned and will be announced in a timely manner to stakeholders.
